That's intentional actually, you can reply to anyone anywhere, and also quote them ie

The reason you can do this is because your post nums increase monotonically. The counter is tied to YOU instead of the thread or board. It's quite funny. Similarly, anonymous is treated as a username, but it's just a non injective user with an infinite amount of potential peoles
